Thank you to everyone who came out to support the BPW’s second annual Student Showcase at our opening reception on December 5, 2018! This year’s group of artists created a collection of stunning imagery, from landscape and travel to food and nature. We couldn’t be prouder of you all!

Check out this year’s submissions in the gallery below, and feel free to come and view the photos in person at the Multicultural Arts Center in Cambridge, open Monday-Friday, 10:30am-6pm, now through January 4. Many of the prints are also for sale if you’re looking for a special holiday gift (proceeds benefit the artist)!

Salem Photo Walk!

The BPW is all about adventure and exploration. This past weekend we held a day trip photo walk in the historic city of Salem, MA. The city best known for Halloween also has charm outside of October. Our students and instructors strolled through the city and photographed the charming historic downtown capturing the seen and often unseen side of Salem. Check out our other upcoming "Special Event" classes held throughout the year and updated regularly. The BPW believes photography is the best excuse to get out and explore!

At some point, most photographers run into the same feeling. You’re out with your camera, taking photos… but nothing really sticks. You get home, scroll through them, and think:

“These are fine… but why don’t they feel like anything?” That’s usually the moment where things start to shift.

You stop just taking photos of what’s in front of you—and start wondering how to make something out of it. If you’ve been curious about creative photography or how to tell more of a story with your images, this is a good place to start.

The good news is, you don’t need better gear or more technical knowledge. Most of the time, it comes down to how you approach what you’re photographing.

Gear We Love: Cameras 2026

It’s that time of year again when many photographers—new and experienced—start thinking about upgrading their camera gear. At the Boston Photography Workshops, we spend the entire year teaching with, testing, and talking about cameras, so when we publish this list, it’s grounded in real-world use, not just spec sheets.

One big change this year: prices. Between inflation, supply chain hiccups, and ongoing tariffs, camera prices have crept up across the board—and yes, that’s a bummer. Because of that, this year we’re recommending a mix of cameras you can buy new and cameras we strongly suggest looking for on the used market.

As always, our goal isn’t to tell you what’s “trendy,” but what will actually help you learn, grow, and enjoy photography.

Behind the Lens: Death Valley 2025

At the beginning of 2025, our students at BPW had the exciting opportunity to explore Death Valley National Park and photograph the stunning views of Mesquite Dunes and Zabriskie Point. With a fun, close-knit group of students and excellent instructors guiding us, we had a fantastic time capturing images of Badwater Basin (the salt flats), Dante's View, Artist's Palette, and the Rhyolite ghost town.
