Historic Boston

Architectural photography meets time travel. Look into Boston's history and create photos that show past, present, and even future.

In this outdoor exploration, we’ll recreate historical photographs of the Boston area in today’s modern landscape. By the end of the workshop, you’ll enhance your understanding of architectural and landscape composition while indulging in rich local history!

Meeting in a public place, the day begins by discussing historical photographic techniques and how they differ from today’s. Students will learn how to photograph cities and buildings for best results, and how to plan your own historic images.

Prior to the class students will receive a digital packet with historic photos. Using these photos as reference, the class will explore several key spots to recreate and photograph historic areas around Boston.

After the class students will receive web links to the reference photos which they can download at home. When placed next to their own photos made during class, the result can be stunning imagery of “then & now”. Students will also receive supplemental materials on how to create side by side photos at home.
