The event: Join us for a delightful morning of bird photography at the beautiful Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary! This beginner-friendly workshop combines the joy of birdwatching with photography in a relaxed outdoor setting. You'll learn how to capture charming images of local birds while enjoying nature's serenity. Our experienced photographer will help you spot regional favorites like chickadees, cardinals, and nuthatches, while teaching simple techniques to transform your bird photos from ordinary to impressive.

Who Should Attend: This workshop is ideal for beginner photographers who have a basic understanding of their camera and have an interest in wildlife photography. Whether you're a nature enthusiast wanting to document backyard birds or an aspiring wildlife photographer, this course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to take your bird photography to the next level.

Location: Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary (meeting details shared after registration)

Recommended Prerequisite:

  • Digital Cameras 1 or familiarity with your camera + manual settings

  • Best camera settings for bird photography including: focus modes, drive modes, image stabilization and lens selection

  • Techniques for capturing birds in flight and stationary poses

  • Composition strategies to create engaging bird portraits and behavioral shots

  • Field ethics and best practices for wildlife photography

  • Hands-on experience and personal instruction on your goals

What To Bring:

  • Camera with manual mode settings (DSLR, mirrorless, advanced point-and-shoots)

  • Fully charged battery (plus spare if you have one)

  • Empty memory card. Bring multiple memory cards if you have them

  • Telephoto lens (~70-200mm, 70-300mm, or 100-400mm)

What to Expect:

  • Meeting at a central location, we'll lay out the game plan for the day, and work together to determine camera settings and strategies. Throughout the entire workshop you'll have access to your instructors to help you get the best photos.
