The BPW community loves to explore, so we’ve created one-day outings to help you improve your photo skills in fun and accessible locations just outside the Boston area. Pack your camera bag and get ready for an enjoyable, easy, and nearby photo experience with the BPW team!


What you can expect:

  1. Day trips are typically within 90 minutes of downtown Boston, but close enough to be transit accessible.

  2. Expect about 1.5-2 miles of easy-paced walking and a quick snack/coffee break midway through classes.

  3. Information regarding directions, what to bring, our route, and where to meet will be emailed prior to class.

  4. Locations for day trips are rotated based on the time of year and seasonal events. Check back in for new additions!

Bridges of Cape Cod

Summer is in full swing and we’re taking advantage of golden sunsets and warm summer nights. In this new day trip event we’ll photograph two of Cape Cod’s classic gateways, the Bourne Bridge and Buzzard Bay’s Railroad bridge. We’ll start with a photo walk along the water making golden hour photos of the bridges. Then after sunset using long exposures, we’ll photograph light trails of the trains under the twilight of stars! Don’t miss this rare workshop!

    • Workshop is ~3 hours

    • Meeting near Buzzards Bay (exact location will be emailed to you upon signing up) 

    • Guided photo-walk with mini assignments provided (great for all skill levels)

  • Requirements:

    • A digital camera (SLR, mirrorless, or advanced compact camera) 

    • Experience using some manual camera settings is encouraged, but not required

    • Recommended: Tripod at least 24 in. height. We offer tripod rentals for class here

Redcoats and Rebels - Old Sturbridge Village

Step back in time as hundreds of reenactors bring the American Revolution to life at Old Sturbridge Village (OSV) . We'll walk the grounds together as a group, photographing period costumes, artisan craftspeople, historic architecture, and the day's live drills, musket and cannon demonstrations, and battle reenactment. A great outing for beginners and anyone curious about history — no experience needed.

    • Meeting at OSV's Visitor Center (details emailed upon signing up)

    • Rain or shine

    • OSV admission ($32) is not included in tuition — tickets available here

If you’ve never had the chance to visit Ogunquit, Maine, come see why its name means “beautiful place by the sea.” Together with your BPW instructor, you’ll take in magnificent rocky shores and ocean views from the winding Marginal Way coastal path. We’ll also spend time walking the town’s charming streets and visit Perkins Cove, a quaint shopping village and fishing harbor.

    • Saturday, Aug 30th

    • Meeting near downtown Ogunquit (exact location will be emailed to you upon signing up) 

    Requirements:

Explore Cape Cods most colorful and happening city, on our Provincetown day trip! During the class we’ll spend much of the afternoon photographing the lively streets of P-town, the colorful murals, and all the nautical details you can handle. With the Portuguese-American Festival takes place that weekend, the trip will have an extra splash of liveliness in this already bustling summer town.

Also: we’ve timed this day trip with the ferry schedule in mind, so day trippers can make great use of the Bay State fast ferry!
