Join us for a fun, action-packed photography workshop set against the lively energy of a local touch football game in Somerville, MA — presented in partnership with Our Football League (OFL). This beginner-friendly class is a fantastic opportunity to explore sports photography in a relaxed and dynamic environment. Learn how to freeze motion, track fast-moving players, and capture dramatic moments that tell the story of the game. With guidance from professional instructors and plenty of real-time action, you’ll build confidence photographing fast-paced subjects — and walk away with images that show power, motion, and emotion.

This workshop is ideal for beginner to intermediate photographers who are comfortable with their camera and eager to sharpen their action photography skills. Whether you’re an aspiring sports photographer or simply looking to add excitement and energy to your portfolio, this class offers a supportive environment to grow your craft.

Recommended Prerequisites:

• Completion of Digital Cameras 1 or a working knowledge of your camera and manual settings

• Best settings for action photography — including focus modes, drive modes, shutter speeds, and image stabilization
• Techniques for freezing motion and following fast-moving subjects
• Composition strategies to capture energy and storytelling moments
• Real-time instruction and feedback to refine your timing and technique

What To Bring:

• A camera with manual settings (DSLR, mirrorless, or advanced point-and-shoot)
• Fully charged battery
• Empty memory card(s)
• A telephoto lens (such as 70–200mm or 100–400mm) for close-up action shots
• Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing — this event takes place outdoors

We’ll start by reviewing camera settings and strategies for capturing motion and impact. As the game unfolds, you’ll have the freedom to move around the field, experiment with different angles, and receive real-time feedback from your instructors. It’s a fast-paced, friendly setting that will help you practice quick thinking and creative framing — all while having fun photographing the action.
